National Archaeological Museum

The National Archaeological Museum of Athens is the largest archaeological museum in Greece and one of the most important museums in the world devoted to ancient Greek art.
It was founded at the end of the 19th century to house and protect 11,000 antiquities from all over Greece, thus displaying their historical, cultural and artistic value.

Museum of Cycladic Art

Τhe Museum of Cycladic Art is dedicated to the study and promotion of ancient cultures of the Aegean and Cyprus, with special emphasis on Cycladic Art of the 3rd millennium BC. It was founded in 1986, to house the collection of Nicholas and Dolly Goulandris. Since then it has grown in size to accommodate new acquisitions, obtained either through direct purchases or through donations by important collectors and institutions.

Goulandris Natural History Museum

Founded in 1965, the Goulandris Natural History Museum is home to zoological, botanical, marine, rock, mineral and fossil specimens. The Gaia Centre for Environmental Research & Education, founded in 2001, provides the unique opportunity to the visitor to get acquainted with Earth, the diversity of its landscapes, flora and fauna, via new interactive technologies, and understand the impact of human activity on the environment.

SNFCC

This is the latest multi-prize winning project designed by Renzo Piano. It hosts the Greek National Opera, The National Library of Greece and the Stavros Niarchos Park. It offers a plethora of free cultural, educational and athletic programs, all funded by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

Posidon Sanctuary at Sounion

The Cape of Sounion was, in antiquity, the southern boundary of the territory of the city-state of Athens. At Cape Sounion, the Athenians built a sanctuary surrounded by a wall. Posidon sanctuary, was the principal temple dedicated to Poseidon, the god of the sea. This is a Doric temple and is the only temple which has been preserved until today. It was built in 444 BC, at a height of 73 metres above the sea level. It is not far away that, according to the myth, Theseus father (Aegeas) jumped into the sea, which was named after him “Aegean Sea”, even since.
